brando’s screen test for ‘rebel without a cause’ (1955, dir. nicholas ray) in 1947.

at the screen test, he wasn’t auditioning for this movie and no offer of any other part was made by the studio at that time.

the movie finally appeared in 1955 with james dean (who died before the movie’s release) in the leading role after a totally new script had been written in the 1950s.

how good would have brando been in this movie, we will never know. *sad face*

during an acting class, when the students were told to act out ‘a chicken hearing an air-raid siren’, most of the students clucked and flapped their arms in a panic, while brando stood stock-still, staring up at the ceiling.

when asked to explain himself, brando replied,

“i’m a chicken - i don’t know what an air-raid siren is.” *
